When you first activate WPML a\u00a0Setup Wizard\u00a0will help you specify the essential settings required to prepare your site for multilingual content. Follow the wizard you can:<ul><li>Choose your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wpml.org\/documentation\/getting-started-guide\/language-setup\/\">site\u2019s languages<\/a><\/li><li>Customize and add\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wpml.org\/documentation\/getting-started-guide\/language-setup\/language-switcher-options\/\">language switchers<\/a>\u00a0to your site<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/wpml.org\/faq\/install-wpml\/#register\">Register WPML<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"wpml-2\">Step 2 &#8211; Translating pages and posts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When you have created some pages and posts on your website, you can translate them into other languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you are going to translate a page. On your website dashboard >\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Pages&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0> in the\u00a0<strong>&#8220;All Pages&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0list, you will see these icons (translation controls) in the\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Language&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0column. Or, you will find the\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Language&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0box when editing the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the &#8220;+&#8221; button of the language you are about to translate the content to. For example, &#8220;German&#8221;. This creates a new German translation for it. Then enter the content written in German. And publish the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to updating the translation of a page or post, please go to\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Pages&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Posts&#8221;<\/strong>. For the translated pages or posts, the &#8220;+&#8221; icon will change to a pencil icon. Click on the pencil icon if you need to modify your translation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"wpml-3\">Step 3 &#8211; Translating post categories and tags<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Translating Post Categories:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Navigating to\u00a0<strong>Posts<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0<strong>Categories<\/strong>, as an example we will create a category and name it &#8220;Vegan&#8221;, also upload a category image for it, and click on the\u00a0<strong>Add New Category<\/strong>\u00a0button. (Please refer to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loftocean.com\/fallsky-doc\/documentation.html#edit-category\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Edit a category<\/a>.)<\/li><li>When editing this category, find the\u00a0<strong>Language<\/strong>\u00a0box, and click on the\u00a0<strong>&#8220;add&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0link to add the translation of the category.<\/li><li>Fill the\u00a0<strong>Name<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Slug<\/strong>\u00a0fields with the category translation, and also choose the same category image for it, and then click on the\u00a0<strong>Add New Category<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loftocean.com\/tinysalt-doc\/img\/translate-category.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Translating post tags<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Translating post tags is just as same as translating categories. The only difference is you only need to enter tag\u00a0<strong>Name<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Slug<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taxonomy Translation<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also translate post categories and tags via WPML&nbsp;<strong>Taxonomy Translation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Navigating to\u00a0<strong>WPML<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0<strong>Taxonomy Translation<\/strong>. Select\u00a0<strong>Tags<\/strong>\u00a0(or Categories) from the\u00a0<strong>Select the taxonomy to translate<\/strong>\u00a0drop-down menu. Then click on the &#8220;+&#8221; icon or the pencil icon to translate a tag (or a category).<\/li><li>The\u00a0<strong>Term Translation<\/strong>\u00a0box will pop up. Enter the translation and click on &#8220;Save&#8221; button.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loftocean.com\/tinysalt-doc\/img\/taxonomy-translation.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loftocean.com\/tinysalt-doc\/img\/translate-taxonomy.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"wpml-4\">Step 4 &#8211; Translating texts coming from the theme &amp; WordPress Core<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The following texts need to be translated on the&nbsp;String Translation&nbsp;screen. (Read more about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wpml.org\/documentation\/getting-started-guide\/theme-localization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Theme and Plugin Localization<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Theme Strings<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; They are strings written in the theme code (included in the .pot file), for example, &#8220;Join the Conversation&#8221; (Comments Section Title) on each single post or page.<\/li><li><strong>Theme Options Strings<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; They are strings entered in the theme options (customizer). When customizing your site with Fallsky theme, you will be able to enter many custom text in the customizer. To translate any custom text you entered in the customizer you need to use\u00a0String Translation\u00a0screen of WPML.<\/li><li><strong>Strings entered with WordPress core features<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Such as the site title, the tagline, widgets.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, WPML doesn\u2019t scan or load these translation files into the database. Because of this, you will not be able to find these strings on the WPML \u2192 String Translation page. If you want to translate or edit these strings, you first need to\u00a0<strong>scan the translation files<\/strong>\u00a0of the related theme or a plugin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1 &#8211; Scanning the theme<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To translate texts coming from the theme and plugins, you need to scan them first. Go to the\u00a0<strong>WPML \u2192 Theme and plugins localization<\/strong>\u00a0page and find\u00a0<strong>Strings in the themes<\/strong>\u00a0box. Select &#8220;Fallsky&#8221; and click the\u00a0Scan selected themes for strings\u00a0button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2 &#8211; Translating the texts<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Please navigate to&nbsp;<strong>WPML \u2192 String translation<\/strong>&nbsp;page. Then you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Select &#8220;Fallsky&#8221; in the\u00a0<strong>Select string within domain<\/strong>\u00a0dropdown list.<\/li><li>If you have imported a demo, or you have changed any settings in the customizer, please select &#8220;admin_texts_theme_mods_fallsky&#8221; in the\u00a0<strong>Select string within domain<\/strong>\u00a0dropdown list to find the text added in the customizer.<\/li><li>Or, you can enter some keywords copied from the texts you want to translate into the\u00a0<strong>Search for:<\/strong>\u00a0field and search.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, let&#8217;s translate the &#8220;Load More Posts&#8221; button. The original text is entered in the customizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Navigate to\u00a0<strong>WPML \u2192 String translation<\/strong>. Enter &#8220;load more&#8221; and search. You will see the search result as shown below, then click on\u00a0<strong>translations<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Add your translated text. Please read our documentation to know more details about it:\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.loftocean.com\/fallsky-doc\/documentation.html#homepage\" target=\"_blank\">Multi-content Homepage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When creating a bilingual\/multilingual site, you will need to create different home widgets for different languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, on the homepage, we have a home widget displaying the most viewed posts, this home widget has a title &#8220;Most Popular&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Expand this home widget, you can find the option&nbsp;<strong>&#8220;Display on language&#8221;<\/strong>&nbsp;at the bottom of its settings panel. Choose&nbsp;<strong>&#8220;English&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Add a new home widget &gt; &#8220;Posts&#8221;, choose the same options as the home widget &#8220;Most Popular&#8221;. Change the home widget title to &#8220;Am beliebtesten&#8221; (&#8220;Most Popular&#8221; in German).<\/li><li>Find the option&nbsp;<strong>&#8220;Display on language&#8221;<\/strong>&nbsp;at the bottom of its settings panel. Installing an Add-on<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Please download and install this add-on:&nbsp;<strong>MailChimp for WordPress Multilingual<\/strong>. Please go to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wpml.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WPML<\/a>&nbsp;and log into your account, then please go to &#8220;Download&#8221; page to download the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wpml.org\/announcements\/2017\/12\/mailchimp-for-wordpress-multilingual\/\">MailChimp for WordPress Multilingual<\/a>&nbsp;add-on. And then upload it to your website, install and activate it just as you would any other WordPress plugin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. You can translate menus manually, or have WPML synchronize menu content. This requires that the WPML String Translation module is installed. WPML lets you add a language switcher in different ways: in a menu, as a widget, or in the site\u2019s footer.
